Data Transparency Report

Sensor Data Collected
GreenGains focuses on low-impact, privacy-first sensing. We only access four passive sensors to understand environmental context:
- Light sensor — ambient brightness (lux) for urban light mapping.
- Magnetometer — magnetic field changes to interpret environmental variation.
- Accelerometer — motion intensity and vibration patterns for mobility analysis.
- Gyroscope — device orientation and subtle movement for activity smoothing.
Anonymisation & Safeguards
No GPS, microphone, camera, or personal identifiers are collected. Raw sensor readings are decoupled from user identifiers, batched, and aggregated before analysis. All endpoints use TLS 1.2+ and zero-retention edge buffers to minimise exposure.
Retention & Archival Policy
- Raw sensor data is automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Aggregated datasets (minute-level insights) are retained up to 12 months for research access.
- Monthly anonymised archives are generated before automated deletion jobs run.
Network Choices & Data Usage
Contributors can opt into mobile uploads or restrict uploads to Wi-Fi from the in-app settings. When mobile uploads are enabled, average usage stays below 10 MB per month.
GDPR & Compliance
GreenGains operates within the European Union and follows GDPR principles of minimisation, purpose limitation, and transparency. Requests for access, rectification, or deletion can be submitted to privacy@greengains.app.
