The API returns JSON responses with tile-level aggregates, confidence scores, and timestamp metadata. Full authentication, rate limits, and OpenAPI schema docs will be published during beta launch.

Current Data Sources

GreenGains collects data from smartphone sensors to power three data products: weather, mobility, and indoor environment insights.

Barometer (~40% of Android devices) provides hyper-local barometric pressure for weather forecasting and climate research.
GPS Location (coarse by default, fine-grained opt-in) enables geospatial aggregation and movement pattern analysis.
Accelerometer detects motion states (stationary, walking, transit) for mobility data products and urban planning insights.
Gyroscope tracks device orientation and rotation for enhanced motion classification and activity detection.
Light Sensor measures ambient brightness for indoor environment monitoring and smart building applications.

Battery Optimization: Hardware FIFO batching reduces CPU wakeups by 6x with zero data loss. Estimated battery impact: <3% per day.

Data Retention & Network Usage

We balance research-grade data availability with responsible retention and bandwidth choices:

Raw sensor data is stored for 30 days before being rolled into aggregated datasets.
Aggregated datasets remain available for up to 12 months for longitudinal studies.
Network controls let contributors choose Wi-Fi-only uploads or opt in to mobile data.
Anonymized archives are generated monthly before older raw data is permanently deleted.

Average monthly mobile data usage per contributor stays below 10 MB.

Data Transparency

All GreenGains datasets are hosted within the European Union. Raw sensor data are automatically deleted after 30 days; aggregated insights are stored up to 12 months for research access. Our transparency policy and privacy documentation are publicly available.
